When and how did you start collecting dolls?
I've played with Barbies as a child and only got into dolls this scale (1:6) again in my early 20's. I was never much of a doll person (I hear this a lot from other doll fans, too).
My newly-found interest in dolls was started by the resin ball-joint dolls made by Volks - the Super Dollfies. Never have I seen dolls so beautiful and customizable before and
after months of saving and saving I bought my first 60cm/23'' Super Dollfie boy. Now I have two boys and I couldn't have been happier.
About a year and a half after my first Super Dollfie, I got into the smaller scale dolls, including the Volks' own 1/6 line, and all things miniature and cute, as well as dollhouses.
This meant I was ready to start collecting smaller dolls after focusing on the large ones very exclusively before. Learning how to sew helped me with my confidence, too, and I wasn't
as nervous to start collecting a new line of dolls like I was before with Super Dollfies. I was no longer a total newbie but I still lacked experience in the 1/6 doll world. ^^ I tried
to compensate this by doing extensive research online by reading all the websites, blogs and communities I could find that were about the dolls I was interested in.
Dolls like Licca, Jenny, Blythe, Momoko, vintage Sindy, Volks Who's That Girl, etc., caught my attention and were added to my wishlist.
How did you get interested in Takara dolls (Licca and Jenny)?
As I've said, along with Super Dollfies and Dollfies I naturally noticed other dolls portrayed online and sold on auctions and my curiosity was piqued.
Takara Jenny was one of those fashion dolls that intrigued me but I never bought one before. Takara's smaller doll Licca became an instant favourite when
I realized she is the same height as Volks EB-mini - another fave of mine. The more I found out about her, the more I loved her cheerful face, the big eyes and the numerous
hairstyles. Only one other type of doll could beat Licca in hair-dos... Takara Jenny Friend. Jenny has a billion friends and a few of these appealed to me far more than Jenny
ever could. My current personal preference is Jenny friend Kisara. A lot of collectors adore them, along with the ever-popular Shion and Marine.
Shion, too, I often find very beautiful. I also like Tamaki and Kaori. There are so many dolls to choose from! I could not believe I have missed these before.
And so it was that I have fallen in love with Licca and Kisara. In early 2006 I bought my very first Licca and
a TAKARA BAKO Kisara, and my collecting finally started with two very beautiful specimens.
Where do you buy your dolls?
My Takara dolls are all second-hand from Yahoo!Japan auctions. I'm bidding on these via a deputy service that sends the dolls to me after the transaction is completed.
As for doll clothes and shoes, I either get them
on eBay, Yahoo!Japan or from other fellow customizers via forums and websites.
Where did you buy the furniture, tiny bits and other miniatures for your dollhouse?
The furniture was found on eBay mostly and the little things like figurines and toys were bought on Yahoo!Japan auctions. A lot of the accessory stuff is from a local
art & hobby store that has a lovely selection of crafts. Bookstores, too, sometimes have things of use, like wrapping paper for the walls/floors, little accessories, etc. A lot
of bits I just find here and there and save them till I'll need them some day... After a while they sure pile up!
Can I put your photos/wallpapers on my site?
No. The wallpapers are for PERSONAL USE only. They're for your desktop, they're not free website graphics. Please refrain from taking any pictures also. I tagged them for
a reason and if people were to post them on their own websites, what purpose does my site have then? They're my photos, I'd like them to remain on my website where
they belong.
What programs did you use to make this website?
For graphics I use Paint Shop Pro 7 and Adobe Photoshop 6. As for the website, I code the HTML by hand in Notepad.
Are any of the dolls on your site for sale?
No, sorry, they're from my personal collection! I'm not selling them.
Who is the short-haired Licca on your site layout?
She's Licca NRE Restaurant Attendant. ^_^
Of all the Liccas in your collection, which one is your favourite?
This is a very difficult question to answer! I love all my dolls to bits but my fave is currently this replica because she's
been among my top faves from the very start of my Licca obsession. Licca of Southern Island is another fave because she
was the first Licca doll I ever bought. She'll always have a special place in my heart.
I don't know anything about these dolls but they're really cute and I want one! Where should I start?
To learn more about Licca-chan, please visit the extensive Barbi Girl website (follow the 'Fashion Dolls' link) to read
info and history on the doll. You can also go to the official site but it's only in Japanese.
Ok, so where can I buy one?
See the Official Takara and dealer sites links I've put up. There you can find places selling the doll.
How many Liccas do you have?
I have the ones already profiled on this website, plus there are always a few others that I haven't introduced yet.
If you have any questions that aren't answered here, please
me.
